Hey Everyone, Mark here, the founder at Saraz.
I am excited to share with you all a recent Saraz built on some drawn shells that are at least new to me. While having Rebecca Dancyger of Spirit Handpans and Chef David Galleher of Makai Handpans in the same building as our shop, I have had the opportunity to build a couple Saraz on Ayasa Instruments Drawn Shells. As the third drawn shell that I have built a Saraz on, it is undeniably my favorite so far. The following video is of the first Saraz that I tuned on an Ayasa Drawn Shell. The scale is one my favorites, F Dorian.
While my heart still has an affection for fully hammered material, these shells do in fact have a couple qualities that I find superior. There are of course always pros and cons of each tunnel down the rabbit hole of singing steel. Nonetheless, these shells are the only other ones I have found that really come even close to the qualities that we prefer in fully hammered steel. We will definitely make more limited edition Saraz on Ayasa Drawn Shells in the Future as I am very excited to continue exploring this material.
A sincere salute to Ralf and the whole crew at Ayasa Instruments for fabricating these awesome shells and making them available to other builders.
