Professional Vs. Alchemy Series Saraz
The Professional Series
The Professional Series is the apex of our pioneering years of development, which dates back longer than 98% of the handpan builders today. With attention to the fine details, our refined architecture and design has focused on the development of a balanced timbre, exceptional tuning stability, tuned shoulder tones, rust resistance, and both note sensitivity and note strength. Tuned shoulder tones on the center note are one of the key differences that set our Professional Level instruments apart. These percussive tones allow another percussive layer of the instrument to be integrated harmonically within a composition. Relatively very few builders are able or willing to spend the extra time, energy and skill required to take their instruments to this level of detail.
This line of instruments is what has earned us a global reputation as artisans of one of the finest Handpans available today. Almost every video in our Offered Scale List features Professional Series Saraz Handpans. Our Professional Series is available in either longer sustaining Stainless Steel or our classic Nitrided Steel. Details on the differences between the two materials are below.
Pricing for our Professional Series instruments:
- $3000 USD for an 8 note instrument
- $325 for each additional note on the top or bottom

Alchemy Series
This series of Saraz has been developed for the hobby handpan player with an entry level budget. These Saraz still feature refined architecture and design like our other instruments with a focus on a balanced timbre, exceptional tuning stability, rust resistance, and both note sensitivity and note strength. Unlike our Professional Series Instruments, we do not tune the shoulder tones on the edges of the center note on our Alchemy Series Instruments as they often requires significantly more time, energy and skill to tune. Our Alchemy Series Saraz are only available on Stainless Steel.
Pricing for our Alchemy Series instruments:
- $2399 USD for a 9-10 note instrument
- $249 for each additional note
Price includes up to $200 Shipping, an Evatek carrying case, microfiber cloth, and a little piece of our heart and soul. To order your own Alchemy Series Saraz, visit our online Shop.
Stainless Steel vs. Nitrided Steel Saraz Handpans
Stainless Steel Handpans
Our Stainless Steel Saraz are the result of years of research into the material. It quickly became and continues to be our personal favorite. The material is a very different animal however that pushed us to develop new building techniques while exploring the novel rabbit hole of singing steel. A few characteristic qualities of the material include:
- significantly longer dreamy sustain (typically about 8-10 seconds)
- brighter and louder tone
- warm hypnotic timbre due to dampening of high frequencies
- inherent rust resistance
- beautiful color with eye catching shine and shimmer
- new scales available because the notes are slightly smaller
In our opinion, this line of instruments is especially for those players that love handpans for their hypnotic, relaxing, dreamy, and meditative qualities whether playing alone or when performing for others during sound baths, meditations, and sound therapy work. Some scales like our lower A2 center note Saraz are only available on Stainless Steel.
The Stainless Steel Saraz is available in either our Professional or Alchemy Series. Visit our online Shop for ordering your own custom Stainless Series Saraz with the scale or your choice or keep an eye out for the immediately available Stainless Steel instruments coming down the line.
Nitrided Steel Handpans
For many years, handpans were only built on Nitrided Steel. Cold rolled low carbon steel is put through a heat treatment process called gas nitriding. This adds significant rust resistance and also a bit more ceramic like tone than raw steel. The first 7 years of Saraz were built entirely on nitrided steel and are the core foundation of our early evolution.
Compared to Stainless steel, it has:
- shorter sustain at 3-5 seconds on average
- a more mellow, slightly quieter and reserved tone
- great for fast percussive players
Some players prefer the classic nitrided tone, timbre and sustain or want to purchase a new instrument that will still match the same tone as their other nitrided instruments.
