The “Oxalista” scale form is one of the very few handpan scale names coined by Saraz. First built early in the evolution of Saraz, the name is a salute to the “Oxalis” sound model built by Pantheon Steel. The Oxalista simply adds an A note: Oxalis + A = Oxalista 😉
First built with a G3 center, this 6 note hexatonic scale is a close relative to G Major and G Mixolydian. It simply omits the note that distinguishes them (F#) while also skipping the 4th scale degree on the high end. It is a immensely positive and inspirational scale but without the sugar sweet quality of the full major scale. It leans a bit more toward the triumphant, empowering and celebratory qualities of the Mixolydian mode.
We have offered the Oxalista in G for many years and are eager to build it in E and F as well.
A number of bottom note options are also available. When ordering, look under your desired center note, then “Major” scale variations for these layouts. You can then add additional bottom notes to your order.
