With an octave jump and no minor 6th on the first 8 note variation, this is a “Celtic Minor”. The second 8 note variation leaves out the minor 3rd and 6th resulting in a jovial pentatonic with a taste of the mysterious Orient. The third 8 note variation is pentatonic and commonly referred to historically in the East as “Yu Shan Diao”. These scales play well with C# mixolydian and F# major. These scales require significant internal baffling in order to stabilize the Bb4, therefore no bottom notes are available on these variations.
