Mysterious and meditative, C# Minor is one of our most popular scale requests. The hexatonic variations that exclude the suspenseful minor 6th A note, are commonly called “Celtic Minor”. Adding the high B4 to the first 8 note variation is referred to by our friends at Echo Sound Sculpture as the “Amara” scale. The 4th video with an 8 note variation is the classic “Integral” layout greatly popularized by Panart with the second generation Hang. The inclusion and focus on the A3 greatly increases the suspense in this variation relative to the others. The fifth 8 note video is a pentatonic variation, which leaves out both the 2nd and 6th scale degrees (D# and A respectively). It is commonly referred to historically in the East as “Yu Shan Diao”. The full scale of C# Minor is often referred to as “Annaziska” in the world of Handpans. The name was created by Echo Sound Sculpture. The full scale is also sometimes called “Kurd”. All of these scales play well with E major and F# Dorian.
If you have another variation in mind, please contact us and we will explore if it can also be built.
