Perhaps one of the most popular Minor scales of all time, it can be quite rare to find it available on a Handpan. The minor scale can be mysterious, soothing and relaxing but also quite driving and intense depending on how it is played. All of these variations have an octave jump between the center low A2 and the first side note, A3. The first variation is a full scale of A minor that offers everything a full minor scale can do with many diverse options in feeling and emotion depending on which chords are played. The second variation is a relative of the “Celtic” minor, which leaves out the 6th note in the scale (F). Taking out the most tense and dark note in the scale leads to a bit more smooth, uplifting, and hypnotic variation that bounces between A minor chords on one side and G Major chords on the other side.
If you have another variation in mind, please contact us and we will explore if it can also be built.
These scales play flawlessly with C major, D dorian, and G Mixolydian as well as our very popular D Celtic Minor.
